Michael D. Emkes // Principal
Mike joined House Investments in 1984 and has responsibility for equity raising, asset monitoring, investor servicing, partnership administration and the day-to-day operations of the parent company. He joins Doug in strategic planning and capital structuring. Mike is also involved in the organization of entities and closing transactions. Prior to joining House Investments, Mike worked for a large, multi-national accounting firm where he specialized in taxation and worked extensively with the real estate industry. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University in 1980. He is a Certified Public Accountant (Inactive).
Timothy J. Shafer // Principal
Tim joined House Investments in 1995 and has primary responsibility as the chief operating officer of House Investments Management, LLC, the company’s property management entity. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the management activities which include apartment communities including Section 42 affordable housing complexes. Additional responsibilities include assistance with accounting and tax functions and asset monitoring. Tim earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University in 1991. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a National Compliance Professional-Executive.
Matt joined House Investments in 2017. His primary responsibilities include analyzing the financial feasibility of projects, project due diligence, locating new developments, and assisting in the overall project development process. He is also involved in identifying and securing financing and capital. Matt graduated from Purdue University – Krannert School of Management in 2009 with a B.S. in Accounting and Management. Prior to joining House Investments, Matt worked in the Construction and Real Estate Practice of BKD, LLP for over six years.
Doug has reduced his involvement in day-to-day operations, but is still actively participating in ownership and development activities. Doug has over 35 years of experience in analyzing and financing real estate assets. He joined House Investments in 1988 and was responsible for overseeing underwriting, real estate acquisitions and development, business development and market assessment. He was the managing member of the company’s multifamily properties and oversaw all aspects of the development and operations of the properties. Prior to joining House Investments, Doug worked for First Indiana Bank where he supervised a portfolio of commercial real estate assets in excess of $275,000,000. Directly, Doug has been involved in transactions totaling over $300,000,000 involving properties valued at approximately $500,000,000. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Indiana University in 1977.
